Nancy O'Dell's broadcast career began as a journalist and anchor for WPDE-TV Myrtle Beach in South Carolina. Later, she worked at WCBD as a morning anchor and crime reporter. Her articles from Charleston, about how the Charleston police handled DUI cases with leniency led to an inquiry by State Law Enforcement Division. The investigation resulted a stricter instruction for the state's authorities. It was reported that the Associated Press honored Ms. O'Dell with the Best Report of the Years award in the entirety of South Carolina Media. O'Dell later worked at the Miami-based station of NBC WTVJ-TV as an investigative reporter, before she joined Access Hollywood in the role of co-anchor for the weekend. O'Dell's current role as host for Access Hollywood is complemented by the work she has done for NBC News Today, Dateline NBC and NBC News. She was a reporter for events like The Oscars, The Emmys, The Grammys, and The Golden Globe Awards. Alongside co-hosting the Pre-ShowArrivals for The Emmys & The Golden Globes. Co-hosted The Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants.
